mystery 22 Hornet

A local dealer has this rifle for sale and I have no idea of who built it. it is a well built 22 Hornet and the bolt handle appears to be the only locking lug.
The stock is well done but has a long crack midway down the forend that appears as a dark like and a few repairs behing the bolt handle as well.

Any ideas ?

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship

The Claw Mounts of course, speak volumes of it's Tuetonic heritage.

Appears to me in the photo that the bolt cut isn't correct or is it the light in photo with the rear crossbolt? Can't tell, but if so, may indicate the bolt isn't closing 100%. This could perhaps be the issue with the repairs behind it that you describe.

Had the same issue with a Weihrauch 22 Hornet. Filed the bolt handle cut down for some additional clearance and the accuracy improved significantly.

Is that a 1/2 lug on the front of the bolt?

Shame concerning the stock cracks, IMO, a very nice looking rifle made in an era when steel & walnut was used in making firearms.

I received a PM from a man in S Africa who knew what it was and then I found one on GunAuction.com ( # 7000714 Ziegenhahn 5.6x32 )

It was most likely made in the 1930's but Ziegenhahn is still making high end double rifle for Kreighoff.

Yes, Phil...a gun wearing duct tape, and perhaps a shot or 2 of Rustoleum, wouldn't exactly look out of place in your gunrack :-)

Phil, you do have quite an eclectic collection, from spray-painted old Mossburg pump beaters to a Westley droplock and some of Lon Paul's finest guns. You're a STRANGE man :-)

The owner is asking $1100 here in Alaska - in fact his name is Allen Nichols and his phone number is 907-357-2414 and e-mail is allen@matonline.net in case someone wants to get a jump on it.

As I said, it is a high quality rifle with a nicely done custom stock but the stock has been broken and repaired. It appears solid.
The other issue is the only sights are the bases for claw mounts so the owner will have to deal with that as well.
