jorgePORTUGUESE MAUSER 1904 (MANNLICHER)
Gunmakers: I have a very nice Portuguese Mauser that unfortunately was converted to 8mm Mauser from the original caliber so it has no collector value. The action was made by DWN and it's beautifully slick and tight Mannlicher action. Would it be possible/worthwhile to use this action to make a say, 256 Mannlicher sporting rifle? thanks, jorge

2152hqThey are beautifully made actions and make up into equally nice sporting rifles.
256 Mannlicher (6.5 M/S) should work fine through it.
Here's a link to another forum where Mannlicher rifles are the subject.

SR4759The receiver bottom is pretty much the same shape as a small ring mauser. The bottom metal is virtually identical to the M1898/09 Argentine Mauser bottom metal.
It should make a fine rifle if it feeds your shoice of cartridge well.
You should consider what you are going to do for sights since mounting a scope is going to require some custom work to get a nice set of mounts.

jorgeThanks for the links and the info. I would love to try and do something like that to this rifle, even a full length Mannlicher style stock.
