Hello All,

I acquired this rifle about 6 years ago in 2014. ... Its a Custom Rifle from a maker that I had not heard of at the time I purchased. Apparently Anthony Guymon was in business from approx. 1948 - 1963.

Custom Rifles back then, were very flashy, so everyone could see instantly that it was a "Custom", just like this one.

I'd be curious if anyone has any rifles from this maker, or any info about them.

The original owner, who was 78 years old back then, had this rifle built for him in 1960 while he was stationed in Seattle, Washington. He was serving in the Navy as part of a Submarine crew. He was originally from Clintonville, Wisconsin, where he returned after his service. He hunted with the rifle every year for the next 53 years, right up until the year 2013. I bought it the following year. He said he never took the rifle into the field on days when it rained, and that explains why its in MINT condition. He even had the original Guymon Leather sling, the original Guymon Gun Case w/ Hand Tooled Leather Trim, and the original 29 page Anthony Guymon catalog from his 1960 order. Inside the catalog he wrote the prices for all the options he wanted - the total price he paid was $335.90 in 1960. That was a lot of money back then. The 1960 - 2020 calculator says its equivalent to $2916.13 in today's dollars.

That is awesome a blast from the past .Todays milkcarton plastic stocks don't like like anything special !

There is another one these rifles floating around the internet, I saw it the other day.

I’d recognize that scroll in the stock anywhere.

Brings back memories from my youth. Gun magazines often had articles on similar firearms, seems like it was called the California style. Wasn't there a gunsmith named Winston associated with that style?

Harry Lawson in AZ built quite a few rifles that were of the Weatherby/California style.

Can't find the Fajen catalog but I did find a Lawson catalog.

My buddy got 2 Lawson style bolt shrouds for his rem 700's about 5 years ago.

Speaking of Winslows, I really liked all the radical rifles of the 60's & 70's. I had 7 Winslow rifles in my collection. I traded the first 2 pictured for my Daniel Frasier Double Rifle, and next 2 pictured for my Alex Henry Single Shot. The next 2 I sold out-right. The 375 H&H to a Winslow colletor, and the 375 Wby Mag to a Winslow family member.

The only one I kept is the last one pictured. A Brevex 378 Wby Mag. Its a little less radical than the others, and one of only 2 Brevex Winslows ever made.

There is one slight negative about this rifle. Being an early 280, it was built to be in direct competition with the 270 and has a barrel twist of 1:11 to best shoot the lighter bullets, 120g, 140g, 154g. It puts multiple shots into the same hole with these weights.

However, it does terrible with 160g and 175g bullets, the latter resulting in keyholes.
