I posted in progress metal work a few months back. Here's the stocked rifle ready for engraving. Caliber is 7mmSTW, Wood furnished by Dressels, Kreiger barrel and a one off aluminum bottom metal by Sunny Hill.

I have never seen a model 600 with the work you put into this. It looks fantastic even without engraving. I see what you have done to the bolt release, bolt handle, complete bottom metal replacement, and the safety and I am just blown away!

One question though. I know this rifle is for .308 length cartridges yet you listed the caliber as 7mm STW. That's a full length 3.6" cartridge so I know you made a typo. Can you tell us what cartridge this is really chambered for? Did you mean 7mm-08?

How long is the barrel, please?

I'm looking forward to seeing this rifle when you have finished.

Beautiful as usually, I really like the tang, how will the bottom metal be finished, or all of the metal for that matter. Only have one other question, why? Yeah I know about the blue suit.

My dad had an old 600, and once I got into the custom rifle hobby I always eyed it differently, considering a potential outcome like this. (of course I could only hope to approach this level of class...)

My thoughts would be to keep the original length barrel and do a Mannlicher stock. Has anybody taken the plastic rib off and still managed to make it look halfway decent?

Also, I presume that is your own bottom metal?

Talk about making a silk purse out of a sows ear, that rifle is amazing. You've addressed all the short comings of the 600 and enhanced its strengths. Just lovely.

Wow... always thought the 600's were pretty hideous. The dogleg bolt and all. The rework must have taken some time because that is the nicest one I have seen!

I am also in the process of building a rifle up on one of these actions also.

Modified a M700 bolt handle, M700 trigger, also have one of my old M70 three position safeties to go on the bolt.

Keeping the magazine box but adding M700 ADL trigger guard.
Will have to epoxy a thin steel block in under the magazine box into the stock to anchor the front screw on the ADL guard

In the middle of redoing the rear tang to work with the ADL guard. Need to redo the bolt stop also.

Caliber of mine is 300 Black Out. hard part is do I cut the barrel at 20 inch or 22 inch.

There was a m600 in last months Rifle magazine that was interesting too. I for one kind of like those crazy looking little guns, just not the short 18 inch barrels. The 660's had a 20 inch barrel that to me at least is better.

How difficult is it to fit a three position safety to one? I've never trusted Remington's idea of a safety in the ones I've owned.

So you move the rear tang screw back inorder that it doesn't interfere with the 700 style trigger? I wish that I had done that on my young Grandson's 600.


I would have also rethought my choice of bolt handle. It is in 6X47 Lapua.

The only thing Winchester, that I see, is the safety conversion.

Montea6b - I have a 600 in .243 and the screws for the plastic rib sink into the barrel. So taking the rib off leaves the screw holes.

OK..Well...certainly a knock off....so "yes"...My old fart brain was "M1 Carbine, M1 Garand". I'm making these sights, happen to think they are pretty darn sensible

I think this is an interesting rifle, I've never seen one quite like it. Could we cajole some more detail or pictures of the guts out of you?
