Nice trim rifle with clean, simple, lines. Nothing present that's not needed and the scope matches the rifle well. Makes for an elegant and competent firearm.

If you don't show a photo of the other side, it doesn't exist.

Just kidding, that is well done. Where did the wood come from?

Beautiful and practical in every aspect. The choices in the build were obviously made by an experienced rifleman . Kudos

Beautiful rifle. Looks like a misty northwest forest in the background... WA or OR?

A slim, lightweight, beautiful 30-06 Mauser with a 4x scope. For a hunter it doesn't get any better than that.
Now it just needs to be taken for some long walks.

Nice, practical, greatest caliber on earth, and argueably the finest of the small ring actions.

IR- Beautiful rifle in every respect!

Can I ask a question reqarding how you handled the magazine? Did you use a metal magazine "insert", or nothing at all?

Curious as I have been toying with the idea of doing a blind mag for a project and looking for ideas on how to execute it.

TIA,

Bob

Blackbart,
I simply used cut down military bottom metal.
Basically cut everything off until the mag box was only thing left.
Then I fabricated a sheetmetal bottom.
I ended up reducing the height also so now it holds 4 down,

I wanted a slim profile and a smooth round bottom because I usually hunt the backcountry with a pack, and the rifle spends alot of time in my hand instead of slung over my shoulder.
The trigger guard is made by Sunny Hill and you can order thru Midway.

An added benefit is you lose several ounces of weight and Mausers need to lose all the weight they can!
I have been happy with the blind mag. and understand purist wont care for it, but the rifle was built with a purpose in mind.
Thanks again everyone for the kind remarks.

Brian,

Thanks for the info!! That is very helpful, and pretty much right along the lines of the approach I was thinking of taking.

The reasons you mention are exactly why I think I will pull the trigger and go the blind mag route.

One last thing if I may, how did you handle the front trigger guard screw? Did you bed a threaded piece of metal (Al or brass?) into the stock to hold it?

Best, Bob

bob,
Sunny Hill provides a wood screw for the front of the trigger guard.

Good morning Brian ..

Very cool and pretty rifle ...

I have a 7x57 barreled action that I'm about ready to stock ..I'm planning on it being a Alpine sporting rifle ... no cheekpiece , perhaps no gripcap but a Prince-of Wales round off ..
I have the Sunny Hill triggerguard , and am doing a blind magazine like yours ..

My question .. How much metal did you remove from the bottom of the magazine box so it all clears ??

Thanks .... keep up the nice work !!!

Allen,
I reduced the profile ,I.E. the height of the stock as much as the Timney trigger would allow.
To be honest I didnt measure how much I removed from the mag box, it was more of a trial and error deal.
Its important that the box "floats" a little . If it binds it can affect accuracy. Not to mention potetially damaging the stock.
Another issue to be aware of is the lenght of the front action screw, it has to be shortened the appropriate amount, it cant bottom-out, that will also harm accuracy.

IMO, the quintessential hunting rifle. Congrats on excellent choices.
