Octagon Barrel Take II

Fal GruntOctagon Barrel Take II
.25 caliber lightweight barrel, unpolished, "Sauer" short and wide rib, just enough meat to dovetail a sight. Short enough however that it looks good without a rear sight. Front sight base is left large enough to cut for a number of sight styles.
More pictures available along with a further description on my blog. Please comment. I know this will not be everyone's cup of tea. This barrel will be for sale shortly in the classified section.

So you did this work?
10 April 2011, 22:20
Fal GruntYes sir.
Design and cutting.
I had a little help initially with the design aspect. A friend who has much better CAD skills than I taught me a few tricks as I was having trouble drawing essentially a 3-D figure in a 2-D program.
I updated my blog for those of you who tried to look! I wrote the post up last night and forgot to publish it.

Leo L.Will it require straightening after all that milling?

I like.
Is this one of the Shilen's?
What diameter and length is the shank?
James
I like it as well. Would look great mated to a Mauser Kurz action and chambered in 250-3000. A peep mounted to the cocking piece would eliminate a rear sight. Would make a nice lightweight sporter.

Fal GruntLeo, while I have a lot to learn and I am far from an expert, in my opinion I do not believe it needs straightening.
Mr. Bennett, thank you, yes it is one of the Shilens. The shank diameter for this barrel is 1.200, and the shank is about 4" long. This allows whoever barrels the action choose the length of shank according to caliber. Finished length would be roughly 23" depending on the shank left.
Dons, thank you; slim, trim, and lightweight is what I like.

Remington40xVery nice indeed. I have a Weihrauch Model 52 single shot action on the way. I could see something like that installed on it. Got any idea what you think the price will be?
