Nakihunterhelp me pick a caliber
6.5X55 with 125 gr Nosler partition or Barnes TSX is very close to a 270 Win with 130gr projectiles. No elk will know the difference out to 250 meters.
Great cartridge and so easy to shoot accurately.
BTW I would go for a 1 in 8" twist so that I can use 160 gr bullets in timber.
I would choose the 6.5x55, load it with 140NPs over RE-22 and cheerfully hunt Elk, Moose and any deer with this...and I used to have a Mannlicher-Schoenauer 1961MCA so chambered and used Norma 139 factory ammo which shot .5" consistently. It had a Kollmorgan 2.75x scope and was a little gem of a rifle, I still kinda wish I had not sold it.
