Customs on FN Persian Action
Anyone ever done a custom on one of the FN made Persian actions? The lion crest on the Persian may be the prettiest crest on all the military rifles.

Not familiar with an FN Persian but there was a Czech-made Iranian 98/29 with a nice looking coat of arms on the ring (page 173, Olson). I'm currently sporterizing a VZ24 short rifle with rampant lion crest, also a good looking crest. I guess my favorite is the 09 Peruvian.

Mike,
I just sent a mint barreled action to Wiebe for Roger Vardy. I don't know what the plans are.

That is the one. Mine had a sling swivel in front of the trigger guard.

It's too bad you couldn't find one in better condition.
Wink

That has to be one of the best looking actions I have seen.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Most of the Persian actions that I've seen are in perfect condition. IIRC a whole bunch of unissued Persian Mausers hit the market about ten years ago. I have one but it's a complete rifle. I don't have the heart to take it apart yet.

Not totally sure this is correct but I'm under the impression those actions were made at the same plant and at the same time of the VZ-24 which makes them from 1924 to about 1940 or so.

These are pre-war Czech VZ-24s (more precisely 98/29s), as good as it gets.

This is as my impression....excellent rifles.

I built a .416 Ruger on one. Kicked like hell but held up nicely.

The rifle is labeled 1309 which is the solar year which would be 1929/1930 for us. If you have any more questions about the Farsi I would be happy to answer them, and I know there are at least a couple more on this forum that speak Farsi.

I have two of the rifles in near perfect condition, one made in 1929/30 and one made in 1937/1938. I don't have the heart to have a custom built on either one.
