Hugo 'Schmeisser'!

Rather ironic name since his designs 'tossed' a lot of copper coated lead!

We have a joke on this name in French, unfortunately difficult to literally translate in English.

Schmeisser means welder, the one who welds, 'souder' in French. In slang 'dessouder' translate as unweld and means kill.
Il a été déssoudé, he has been killed. It was used mainly by the gangsters or the cops between 1930 and 1960.

Is there a link?

Bad translation:

"Schweissser" means "welder".

"Schmeisser" is rather "tosser"

Ok, so Maus is mouse in German. What does that tell us about the Mauser brothers? Big Grin

Is that in the same way as a 3006 springfield is not a springfield cartridge.??

Translations can be a tricky thing.

Had a girl friend in Hiedleburg. Took her something I thought she'd like & enjoy.

My German was 2%, her English was even less, but we did figure out the fun things every species since Adam has.

Told her: This is a Gift, she panicked!
Once we figured out I was giving it to her as such. Looked it up in the translation dictionary I had.

Gift in German, means: poison.
No wonder she got bent out of shape, hehe!

Both the 30/06 and the Sprinfield were were US Govt. designs. The 30/06 was designed for the Springfield. The 8X57 was first used in the 1888 Commission Rifle. Neither were Mauser's design.

Byf, thanks for your appreciation, cheers

I shot it only two times, it is like..
I dunno how to compare shooting with this piece of history to anything else I know.
It is like having a painting of a famous artist but it is better than just looking at a painting on the wall.
it is a pure pleasure technically speaking and can't compare to anything else I know.
I hope new owner can feel proud of having it, studying it and using it from time to time.
