Yugo M24/47

The M24/47 is an intermediate length action version of the German 98K. They are very similar to the Yugo M-48s but have a straight bolt.

Price is very regional and depends on condition. But I'd say in the $125-$250. If you get one of these, check out the barrel condition thoroughly!

Surplus 8mm ammo is still dirt cheap. And the rifle (actually a carbine) is also inexpensive.

If you're looking for a knock-around iron sighted deer/black bear rifle for use in the UP, this will do the trick.

It's not a rifle that your buddies will "ooh and ahh" over while drinking beer, but it's a good "utility tool"!

Being an itermediate action it might be a bit short for the x62.

If you like the 9.3 get the rifle built to the 9.3x57 as that will fit the action and the round kicks on the 9.3x62's heels.

The 24/47 is a 1947 "modernized" M24, a Belgian design. The 24/47 is one of the best shooting 8x57 Mausers out there. If you load 200gr it passes the .30-06 in ballistics. I would not change a thing. I have '96 action 9.3x57's and they come close to .35 Whelan, but not quite 9.3x62. With the heavier 286gr bullets and the extra 5mm case you would likely have issues. If the barrel is good, keep it as is and you will have a fine rifle. The price on them has gone up since DaMan has looked. $250.00 is the bottom for a beater in local shops now. Check for stamps on the bolt, tang and under the receiver, it may be worth more then you think.

Like I said..... pricing is quite regional and it's been a few years since I last checked.

A gunshop in Denver had a bunch of them for $125 a few years ago...... but those guys were ROUGH! I passed on them because I didn't see a single one with a good bore and I didn't want to rebarrel an intermediate action.

At that time there were unissued M-48s for about $200. So I got two of them (with all accessories).

I agree with Jpat. If you find an intermediate action rifle with good bore, leave it AS IS.

Surplus 8mm ammo is currently dirt cheap. And a good shooting 8x57mm with proper ammo is adequate for any game in North and South America.

Hey, I did not intend to dog you, and you responded very cordially. Samco had great 24/47's a few years ago. I have a 129.00 and a 189.00 example. Just a few months apart in purchase date. One is an original 24/47 stamp w/ Serbian acceptance stamps. I'd trade it for your extra M48 depending on condition. This one is pristine.
