WD-40 will also take road oil off your vehicle.

Yes WD 40 is a cleaner and easing fluid.
Not really a good lube.
I don't use it, except to stop my iron plates rusting when left out.

Boiling water also removes Cosmoline quickly and easily.

It can be messy, but take the gun to a coin-operated carwash.

The hot high pressure steam works well in moving the Cosmoline from the gun onto your clothes... [Big Grin]

Somthing else that works fairly well is the spray brake cleaner from a parts store.
