tlp335What is this worth?
A buddy of mine called me looking at a sporterized mauser. He asked me what this is worth, but i have no idea. I know squat about mausers. It is a 25-06 with a A&B barrel, B&C stock and drilled and taped for a 1 piece redfield base (included with the rifle).
The action is a Brazilian 08/34. The bolt is out of a German k98 and was forded, and the bolt handle was turned down by a gun smith "that does hundreds of bolts a year". The rest of the parts trigger guard, firing pin, follower ect are from a Turk mauser.
I know this is a loaded question, but any idea what a fair price for this would be.
Thanks!

Matt Norman$150 to $300, depending on quality of workmanship. These things can be a real crap shoot. It might function flawlessly and shoot 1" groups. Or the chamber might be ovaled, the extractor need replaced, and the barrel/bedding might be such that it won't hold 3 inch groups.
I always wonder why such guns are for sale. Usually it's not because they are tack drivers and function perfectly.

KrochusA rifle built from a hodge podge of parts as the one you mention is would only be worth what you could sell individual parts on E-bay for. I wouldn't shoot it for love or money. (And I like collect old sporters)

tlp335Just a follow up....
My buddy ended up buying it for $200. The bluing on the action was ok - not the greatest, so we stripped it, degreased it, and sprayed it matte black with brownells backing lacguer. Put a Burris Signature e-dot 3-9 scope on it and put it back in the core-lite stock after we opened the barrel channel a bit to free float the barrel.
I worked up loads with a 75g v-max and a 100g sierra hpbt. All the 75g v-max shot under an inch, with the best one just slightly over a half inch!! The 100g were all in and around and inch group - .85" - 1.5". To say he is happy is an understatement.
The rifle feeds great and extracts perfect. He wanted a gun to use for PA deer and varmints and I think this will work out just fine. The gun has some weight to it, but over all it it is just what he was looking for. I still can't believe how well this rifle shoots and functions!
Thanks again for the info/help.
