huxleymauser 98 ejecter
Ok guys I just purchased a nice mauser 98 that was customized into a nice sporter in 30-06 it has engraving of a lion on the floor plate, the saftey and all of the bolt is blued nicley, the magazine follower even has a jewelled finish on it, and it has a peep sight, my thought is the gun was set up for target shooting, because the ejecter spring was removed or disengaged,my question is....can I put this back fairley easily,so it can eject the spent cases...?????

MFDWhen you say ejector spring it makes me think of plunger-ejector/spring arrangement as found on modern, Rem. 700, et al, firearms. Are you missing the "box" which serves as the ejector situated on the left rear of the action, looking from bolt handle to muzzle? The standard M98 ejector also serves as the bolt stop or bolt removal device by pulling outward. Have no idea why one would remove that item from the action, match rifle or otherwise?? Not sure just what the issue is, but perhaps others here can be of more assistance than I.

darwinmauserIf the bolt stop and ejector are still there, there is a small flat spring inside the box which provides tension to the ejector ,( easily replacable ) the ejector itself pivots around the screw that holds the box to the rifle, they will be available from places like Springfield Sporters ,Sarco and gun parts corp.

huxleyyes the bolt stop and ejector are still there ,what's involved to replace it,.....does the gun need to be taken out of the stock,or do I just remove the screw on top of the box..

craigsterWhat you need is the ejector box spring. It's a flat spring that slides into the grooves of the ejector box. Just remove the ejector box screw and the box will come free.
There's a picture of one here:

huxleyWELL, AFTER TAKING THE EJECTOR BOX OFF ,I FOUND THAT THE EJECTOR WAS DISENGAGED, IT WAS MOVED OUT OF THE WAY OF THE SCREW JUST ENOUGH TO NOT COME IN CONTACT WITH THE SPRING , I DID ORDER ANOTHER EJECTOR BOX FROM HOOSIER GUN PARTS ANYWAY, JUST TO HAVE IT,BUT THE ORIGINAL DOES KICK THOSE EMTY CASES PRETTY FAR. AGAIN THANKS FOR THE IN PUT

Just pull back on the bolt slow, the case will barely clear the port that way and fall right on the bench.
