Garand was a Canuck.
Tell us what you think it is and I will tell you where the French copied it from.

BTW what happened to the French version?
Was it unsuccessful?
I know the Garand rifle was a nightmare to manufacture. Not much to brag about in that regard.

Yeah, the little wood screw behind the trigger guard.

look at the parts interaction. Especially the gas operated rod and the way it works.

Yes.
On the 1916 prototype that was a select fire rifle, it looks exactly the same.

see the trigger on the MAS 44, MAS 49 and MAS 49/56 rifles. this is the evolution of the post WW1 armament program that produced the MAS STA 1924, MAS SE 35, MAS 38, MAS 38/39, MAS 40 semi automatic rifles, the MAS 1924 submachine gun, the LMG Chatellerault 1924, the 13,2mm x 99 Hotchkiss HMG and the MAS 1936.

The Ribeyrolle 1918 automatic rifle (select fire machine carbine, intermediate round) the Delaunay Belleville 1916 and 1918 automatic rifles, the Chauchat Ribeyrolle 1918 firing port weapon and many other programs had their production stopped when the war ended.

Bolt carrier is pièce de manoeuvre when the cocking knob or lever is attached to it directly.
otherwise, it's called transporteur de culasse litteraly bolt carrier ie FA MAS, AA 52.
