No caliber markings on this rifle, a sporterized 1903 it appears to me, indicated caliber is 219 Zipper, but curious re. 1898 mention......r in s.

Gun shops might call it anything close.
It could be a flush magazine 98 Krag made into a .219 Zipper.

Dug up serial number range list of both 1898 Krag (my s/n beyond this) and 1903 452XXX s/n produced 1910, so learned something today.

I have a rare, but sporterized 1898 Krag Calvary Carbine...

Great rifle.. that would be a neat rifle chambered in a 219 Zipper...

or a 22 Short Krag...which could be the same thing also...

depending on price.. might be a worthwhile nostalgic investment...

A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because they don't make a 46."
