Prewar70What a Blast--MG 42
Ok, 8mm isn't exactly a Big Bore, but at 1200 rounds per minute there should be an honorary membership. MG42, too bad I didn't take video of me shooting it, the sound was incredible, blurp, blurp. A lot of fun and glad I had the opportunity to do it. Enjoy.

SR4759I fired an MG-08, the WWI German Maxim with the big water jacket one time. Since the ammo was limited I contented my self with trying to make it last as long as possible by firing 2 and 3 shot bursts. The MG-08 has about a 3 ft long sight radius, long enough that it is pretty precise to use the sights. Firing at a 5 gal bucket full of sand at 300 meters I found that it was easy to get at least one shot from each burst to hit the bucket. Often if the first shot hit all 3 would hit.

homebrewerWhat would that thing bring if you could sell it to someone with the means to buy it? It looks to be in very good shape...

mstarlingGerman MG42s are going north of $35-40k. The mount is worth a bunch too. Neat machine!
These things are hell on wheels with the normal buffer ... with the anti-aircraft buffer they sound like a chain saw wound up really tight. Just amazing! Sure do eat the ammo.
One day we had an M60 and an MG34 on tripods side-by-side on the range knocking the heck out a target at the same time. Rate of fire would have been only slightly higher than the MG42 alone

Was a blast!

DARIVS ARCHITECTVSGuy, you look like you're really having fun! I also own an MG-42 and know what great joy it is to collect and own such a wonderful piece of history. It has to be one of the best machineguns ever made.

They are impressive!
You can understand why they were so effective against human wave attacks.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

N E 450 No2Once upon a time...
I used a MG 42 to cut a car in half.
Ane then made some small pieces out of the 2 halves.
The MG42 is truely one of the best "Light Machine Guns".
If you can stand a little more weight, then a Browning 1919 is worth a look.
If you need to shoot on the run... then a BREN or a BAR will do.
However, I have seen the belt fed H&K shoot 500 rounds with ONE pull of the trigger several times. Hard to argue with that.

Welcome, Darius!

Low cyclic rate, but carries a punch!
Experimental 30 x 113mm self powered automatic cannon.
PS I also like the MG42 on a buffered mount!
