STEEL CASED 223'S
I recently purchased a left-handed Stag in 223.

There seems to be large amount of Russian, steel cased lacquered ammo, being sold through various suppliers, at very reasonable prices.

Will shooting the CHEAP, steel cased 223s damage my gun?

It's nasty, dirty stuff. I don't shoot it in my AR. Steel expands different than brass so extraction could be a problem. Lacquer gets hot and melts, then you get to clean it out before you can chamber another round.

I've got an AR-10 that loves the cheap steel case ammo. Dirty, but cleans up well.

On the other hand I have two AR-15s that refused to function with steel cases (as in hammer the bolt open more than once!!!).

There is plenty of low cost 223 in brass cases. Try the steel if you like, but I wouldn't buy much until it was completely tested in your gun.

Personally, I would never shoot ANY steel cased 223 ammo... Short of "Emergency Conditions".
