Can someone recommend a mail order source for some military surplus ammo for the Mosin-Nagant mod.91-30?

I haven't checked their stock lately, but they stock this caliber, along with most military and pistol calibers.

Jon, if you haven't alread ordered...... Sportsman Guide has the Yugo M-30 ammo. It's brass cased non-corrosive and has the 182 gr. bullet (much better than the 147gr. bullet).

R guns had a lot on hand last time I ordered.

Thanks for all the leads to ammo sources. I ordered 150 rounds of 182g ammo from Sportsman Guide a few days ago. Wish I had ordered the brass Yugo M-30 stuff but didn't know about it until DaMan's post.

I finally broke down and bought one of the $79.99 (Big 5) Mod. 91-30's. This one actually LOOKS pretty good but I don't want to invest much $ in ammo/reloading stuff until head space is checked and it's been fired. Ten day wait is up in a few days and should get the rifle and ammo shipment at about the same time.

Any comments/tips, etc. about shooting the 91-30 are welcome.

Reloading is a pain. There is very little boxer primed brass for 7.62x54R. Unless you buy Winchester ammo or imported brass. I think I bought dies several years ago thinking I'd reload it too. Same with 7.62x39.

91/30's don't have headspace! Wink
SPG is a big lot dealer that will rip you off at the drop of a hat, trust me on this.
Copes has the same Yugo brass cased ammo FS, although is is correctly sold as CORROSIVE! $7.95 bulk shipping also. Corrosive is no big deal. A bit of boiling water down the bore takes care of it. Aim surplus has a VG price on steel case light ball. The 91/30 has no issues w/ steel case. I reload for 7.62x54r. I use Prvi Partizan brass. It is outstanding.

Although not exhaustive in their listings, you can find a good comparison of ammo pricing/availability with the following:

http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=7.62x54R

Don't dismiss reloading entirely...
...load some cast bullets and you can shoot that relic in metallic silhouette matches. Assuming you can handle the shame of less than he-man recoil and muzzle blast, a light load with something as simple as the 130g LRN (such as a Lyman 311410 - usually drops at around .314") over 12.0g of Red Dot or similar would give you plenty of plinking fodder.

Ohh..fwiw, Sako 7.62x53R (the Finnish designation for this caliber) is boxer primed brass.
