Mexican Mauser
I recently acquired a Mexican made Mauser rifle. Stampings on the barrel indicate it is a model 1936 and the front receiver ring has 1940 stamped along with the Mexican crest. The action is much like the K98 but the cocking piece has an extension on it much like a Springfield '03. Overall the rifle is in fair condition. Anyone have an idea what it's worth?

Thanks.

About $75-$150, depending on condition, more if it's pristine, all matching, etc. Lots of the recent imports are fairly rough with pitting. The small ring, medium length action is a wonderful starting point for a custom Mauser chambered for one of the medium size cartridges (250-3000, 6.5x55, 7x57, 308, etc.).

I have a 257AI built on a 1936 Mexican Mauser action. It is a lovely rifle. I also have a 1954 Mexican Mauser which Im told was a 1936 rebbled to 3006 in 1954. I would be interested if you are considering selling your 36. Bob

I once saw a nice barrelled action with the .220 Swift chambering it was a Mexican action, and the man who owned it put a new stock on it, and it complemented very nicely, it was very accurate, and it was in the value of $800.00 after it was completed, the price was given by a local arms appraiser.

The fricking complete bolt, itself, is worth 125, if it has teh cockign piece.

the complete action, in good (light pits) is worth 250

it's a true 98, just smaller, not a 96.

I am kinda a collector of these, and have rifles in
257r
708
308
358
376 steyr
458 winmag

on these actions...

the ones with the cocking piece are VERY collectable, as they are the only mauser with this nice cocking piece, and is a mauser 98.

it's also a small ring
short action

Thanks to all for their inputs (and their offers to purchase it [Wink] ) It does indeed have the '03 style cocking piece. I was talking to an aquaintence of mine who is a gunsmith and he told me he bought 10 of these back in the late '60s for $19.95 each. How things have changed!

Toomany Tools,

I also purchased a few 1936 mex actions back in the 60's. I had to look up in my records that it was from Harry W. Sanford Firearms (Automag fame) 2480 E. Colorado Blvd. Pasadena, Ca. He charged me whopping sum of $28.95 @ shipped to my door. My friends thought I was nuts buying that mexican junk. Wish we could turn back the clock for the mil.surp.that was available in the 50's-60's.Now you got me started, Hunter's Lodge on the rear page of American Rifleman with G33/40 mausers for $39.95. Oh to be young , unmarried and pocket full of cash to buy guns in 1960.
Thanks for the flashback.
