Welcome back from AK. It sounds like the hunting was great but the shooting bears wasnt too hot.

Yup, it's good to be back. Regardless of how the hunt went, I fulfilled a dream: I hunted brown bear in Alaska. Also, unlike my elk hunt in Montana of November, 2002, at least I actually SAW a representative animal. THAT trip, I never saw a single elk.

True, they're both basically the same action. As I recall, the extractors were slightly different... but I think that's about it. However, I don't know beans about them really; my buddy does. He just said, "go forth and procureth one P14 action." He said I just need a stripped receiver.

Anyway, I've gotten a lead or two, but nothing in my hands yet. If you folks come up with a stripped P14 receiver, please drop me a line.

Give this guy a call. (563)-246-2107 He is in Calamus,Ia. It's about 45 min from ya. He had 5 or 6 of them there a couple of days ago. They have already had the sight milled off and tapped for a scope. He also had a couple of them with the barrel still on them. His shop is on Hwy 30 as you are coming into the town on the left from DeWitt.

I have used both P14 actions(303 British) and P17 actions (30/06). For conversion to larger calibres, the P17 action is generally though to be easier since less magazine work will be required. For a single shot rifle the P14 extractor is close enough to the H&H magnum case.

'Scuse me for butting in, but I have P-17 action on which I will build a 375 H&H. I have most of the parts now. My question is that I was told that the P-14 bolt would be easier to use as it has a larger face and requires no smithing to use on a 375 case. I got the bolt, but it will not go ito battery in the P-17 action. Is this the extractor? It is different looking. Can I switch extractors? Help if you can.

It should go into battery unless you still have the 1917 barrel installed. The 1917 has a coned breech and the P14 doesn't. And yes the extractors are totally different. The 1917 bolt will work if you open up the bolt face and extractor. Then when you rebarrel you can retain the coned breech. Rojelio
