the F-35 won over Saab Gripen, hopefully they'll serve us as well as the F-16's.
can't wait to hear them roar when they'll fly over our town.

Lockheed Martin makes them.

couldn't find much about armament, but some articles says that Lockheed Martin and Kongsberg will be working together to make a fighter jet launched version of the Naval Strike Missile( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Strike_Missile )

Although good news for the US/UK partnership developing the F35, it's a real shame that the Gripen won't be developed further.
The Gripen has some real technological advancements and stirred up alot of interest when first introduced, when i worked for Rolls Royce. It would prove a real export success if not for the political constraints.

The Gripen would be a step back from the F-16 which is a dinosaur compared to the F-35...the Saab is a light Wal-Mart class fighter bought by nations facing low threat levels and low budgets. Pity the poor bastard who hss to engage a latest MiG or Su variant with the Saab...why not throw the RaFrog or Euroflopper in there for comparison...

Sorry Macifej but you're just plain wrong ... i'm not stating personal opinion; i'm speaking from experience and knowledge gained working in the industry.

What will happen is that the F35 will end up grossly overbudget resulting in financial time constraints and cost cutting exercises. The delivered systems will pale in comparison to the original spec. Exactly what happened to the F16 (original modA and export variants).

You're talking about some obscure hypothetical budget scenario and I beleive the discussion was on the subject of capability. Comparing the specification of the original ModA export model of 20+ years ago to the Saab is really pointless is it not..?? Comparing the latest versions of all three platforms would be more intellectually honest.....no..??
