It killed a lot of Germans. Big Grin A little crude, but very functional. Chrome plated bore,, so you don't have to worry abut corrosive ammo.

Just the buy the thing. I have a 44 and it shoots as well as any military rifle from that era, just make sure you get ammo at the same time as it will be choked off later on.

Chrome bore or not corrosive will ruin it so keep it clean.

I love my M44 especially the 3 foot fireball that comes out the muzzle

My M44 is so much fun that I rarely go to the range without taking it along. The fireball garners a lot of attention down the line.

The interesting thing about it is that it is very accurate with the bayonet extended but not nearly so with the bayonet stowed. Obviously the 91/30 would not have that issue.

I hunted deer with it last fall but it felt a little wierd walking around the woods with the bayonet in the fixed position.

ALLEN W. JOHNSON - DRSS

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

I have a model 38, and it is a fine shooter, and of course very handy. Does let you know when a bullet leaves the barrel. Big Grin

Other than the operation of the safety, they are great.

Moorepower: At least the Mosins have a safety. Consider the very goofy French MAS 36!

But did they have bullets in them?

There is lots of surplus ammo, and it is cheap.

But don't waste your time.
Buy good bullet, like the .311" Sierra 180 gr. 2310

I have also found the ancient looking Hornady 174 grn RN to be very accurate. And ditto for the 180 grain Sierra.
