Watson LakePolar Bear Hunters Rescued
On the radio this mornign .
three hunters, 2 from United State and one from japan were rescued off an ice pan yesterday.
Two had fallen into the water.
The three with their guide ended on ice that broke away from the pac and they could not get off.
They used their GPS hand held locater device which alerts 911. Because of the signal received the four spent only a total of 6 hours on the ice and the rescue helicopter was able to fly right to them because of the locater.
The two who went into the water were checked out at the nursing station and released in Paultuk.

PeterI guess this was a free range hunt and not on a farm?!!!! Did they have snowmobiles?
Peter.
As I understand it, only Inuit can hunt with snow machines. Guided hunters have to be transported by dog sled.

Watson LakeNews report said they had snow mobiles...
Had spread a beige tarp between two machines.
Ice broke away from the main ice pac so could not get across, back to land. Here is a link to the story.

PeterI thought that only Inuit could guide as the hunters are using part of the "native Indian" quota.
