If you are looking for the spelling of the Canadian province it is Saskatchewan. A couple other interesting points about Saskatchewan. Only Residents of Saskatchewan can apply of elk tags in that province.....unless it is a pasture hunt on someones elk farm. So since you are from Texas that elk come out of someones pasture !

700 nitro Did you ever stop to read the Saskatchewan hunting regs?? I think not. Non residents meaning not Canadians are allowed to hunt Whitetail,Moose and Black Bear. Mule deer,elk ,antelope and cariboo are for residents only and are on a draw. The only exception to this is the antlerless mule deer. If all tags are not taken in the resident draw,Canadian residents may purchase an antlerless mule deer tag after Oct 1. If you don't care to believe me check the " Saskatchewan Hunters & Trappers Guide. The information about elk licenses is found on pages 1 & 2. It is still a pasture elk.

Yes it is a "pasture elk" but a young guy comes on here to try and hang out and you trashed him. Nice going snowman, hope the "elders" treat your kids better than you treat others.

I don't go for this kind of hunting either but for some folks this could be the "hunt" of a lifetime. Show a little respect.

Calgary I trashed no one.I said not one word about what the lad had accomplished. I simply stated a fact. I will say I don't care for people who lie or tell a bunch of half truths. I do show respect when respect is due.

As a non-resident alien you can hunt all of these animals including Elk and Mule Deer on an Indian Reservation. I got a Mule Deer on a reservation near the Battlefords in 2004.

Thanks guys, i appreciate the positive comments. the hunt will acctually air on VS on the televison show Western extreame. In the next couple of months.

maybe it wasnt a 3 week long horseback hunt but i still consider it one of the best experinces of my life not only because i got to hunt this elk but also becasue of the time i was able to spend with my dad. with him out of town all of the time and me working part time and being a full time student takeing 18 credit hrs a semester i treasure the time me and my father spend together.

Good on ya lad.

Looks like a big smile on your face, that is really all that matters. I hunt with my son and the smile and enjoyment is all that really matters. I really am not up on the Sask. hunting regs, but if it was a farm hunt oh well. Not my cup of tea but what ever floats your boat bud.

OK young fellow, since you don't have an orange or red suit on, you could have been either on a hunt farm or an Indian reserve, not an open season. Sask residents only as said. After that who cares. You had a good time and shot an elk and a dandy. The details are not real important. Most reserves are 'fair chase' and even some farms are not a 'gimmie' Some folks will take opportunity to critize before knowing the circumstances. The tv show will have the contact info for the operater and anyone can check it for themselves. Mark

I am a little surprised by the comments generated by this young mans elk photograph. Particularily when juxtaposed with the comments on the "Demise of Big Game Adventures Magazine"thread. The most common criticism of BGA magazine was the recurrence of articles pertaining to fenced or canned "hunts". This young guy has obviously participated in this and is defended by many on this site who paradoxically attack BGA for the same thing. Which way do you want it?
I have no beef ( pun intended) with someone in the difficult business of agriculture raising elk for slaughter by anyone wanting to pay the price. I have no moral qualm with someone paying to execute said elk, no more than with cattle in a slaughter plant. My ire is raised however when this is portrayed as any sort of a HUNTING event which it is anything but. When a photograph is taken with a man in camoflauge with a rifle or bow proudly standing with an impressive animal it represents a hunt which in this case is fraudulent.
I believe the title of this forum is Canadian hunting. I stand firm in the conviction that this thread belongs elsewhere. Perhaps a new site should be started pertaining to execution of domesticated wildlife.

Just finished reading the posts and was unable to detect where snowman trashed anyone; he just stated some facts. Too bad some individuals don't have the stomach for facts.

From what I've seen, Alberta farmed elk all wear ear tags, apparently this isn't the case in Saskatchewan.

Ditto! HUNTING is about fair chase and anything else demeans the term. It's pitiful that modern society has elevated the need to succeeed to this level. Congratulations on your successful shooting of a domestic animal
