WannabeBwanaVarmint hunting around Calgary
I'm going to be out there for four days in Sept. to visit my fiance's family for the first time.
I checked the regs and it looks like I'm too early for bird hunting. But I wondered about taking a couple of rifles out for some prairie dogs.
I checked the Alberta Fish and Game regs, and the only reference I can find to varmints (other than coyote, fox and wolf) is: "Porcupine, rabbit, hare, skunk, raccoon and woodchuck may be hunted, but not trapped*, without a licence throughout the province, at all times of the year."
Does anyone know if "without a licence" includes non-residents?? And does woodchucks include prairie dogs?
Also, can anyone direct me to some decent spots near Calgary for pd's? We'll be staying near the southwest corner of the city, right near the Bow River. I know the Bow is a fly-fishing mecca, but I'm not much of a fly-fisherman.
