HEADED TO NWT FOR BLACK BEAR SPRING 2010
I booked a trip to NWT for spring black bear in 2010. My first guided hunt so any advice is well appreciated. I like the guide (Kelly from SKYLINE ADVENTURES) and have talked to him weekely for over a year. Great guy.

Will say -- damn airfare is way up there right now. NY to Yellowknife is $1255 for AirCanada!!!! I was told not to use them as they are not friendly to gun toting passengers and charge a gun fee.

Try to see if you can use Westjet.

Screw Air Canada!

Agreed 1000%, Air Canada is a disgrace to all decent Canucks and Westjet is the better alternative.

One question and not meaning any offence here, but, WHY would you travel so far to hunt Black Bears, which are available here in BC and in the "Prairie Provinces" for, it seems, lower hunt costs?

The NWT IS certainly worth traveling to and I intend to go back and do some deep wilderness messing around on the Yukon-NWT border this coming summer, but, I just see it as a place to hunt sheep, 'bou, moose and so forth, not Black Bears.

Have you considered driving to Yellowknife?

Air Canada' slogan - "We're not happy, until you're not happy!"

While I kind of understand Dewey's response, I will say this. Their are other places that have better bear populations but population isn't everything.

I live in one of the better places to hunt bears, however I would love to hunt bear in the NWT. Hunting bear in the NWT is different than other places and the fishing that goes along with it as well as the sight seeing is why I would go.

Good luck on your hunt.

My price for the hunt is certainly a good one. WAY GOOD! I've also become close to my guide and feel he will not disapoint. Yes, fishing is certainly on tap as well.

Driving: No go for me as it's about 3500 miles each way.

Good luck with your hunt.........but on the surface it seems you are making the same mistake thousands of other hunters make, that being you are thinking you will get somewhat better treatment/odds because you think you are "in" with him. He is a business man and you are a client. Nothing more and nothing less. I hope you are not disappointed and have a swell trip.

I worked for a Canadian company out of Ottawa for a couple of years..got booked from the Chicago into Ottawa the first time....on Air Canada

I was sitting next to this gentleman from Alberta, who started our conversation with:

"As a Yank, bet you didn't know YUGO made airplanes did ya?" animal

Bug Dope, lots and lots of BUG DOPE!!!!!!
You will donate a lot of blood to the insects.

I used to live in Pine Point.
Spring time can be ruined by,
swarms & swarms of insects!!!

Also, go fishing. Pickeral are
plentiful up there.

The bitching is very justified!
I've refused to use them from a long time ago.
Many reasons for this decision.
