Try being a Canadian and wanting to take a hunting rifle into the US!! I wish I only had to pay $25 (or $50 or even $100!!).

I can assure you that I'd change that in a heartbeat if I could.....and rest assured that I have written my congressman about it!
It's pure bullshit!

DesertRamI think your best bet is to pay with a credit card and let them worry about the exchange. That's what we did.

GrayDuckIf you plan on going to Canada every year it is worth it to get a PAL (Possession Aquisition License). You have to take and pass a safety class, which mine cost $80. Then you fill out an application and pay another $50.
Once you have your PAL you register your firearms with Canada and they send you certificates for each one. Then you pay nothing at the border. The license is good for 5 years but renewal is free. Only way to go in my mind.
One year at the border I told them I had a PAL and they didn't even want to see it. They just sent me on my way.
