A cranker lynx from today
The dogs treed this good tom after a spirited race and a good bay up followed by a full blown fight on the ground. The lucky hunter finished him off at about 6 inches.

Only 30 lbs they sure look bigger my bob cat this year weighted that there are a few bob cats killed in the 50 lb range every year in Wis.

On the trap line in 73 I got a bob cat that weighed 49lbs.

Farther north you may find some reaching 40 lbs but these cats are made to walk on the snow. A bobber is built quite abit different.

I'm up in the Peace Region of BC (Fort St. John area) and when I had a chance to go with a trapper on his line, the lynxes we found looked, to me, like a really big tomcat, except with skinny, super-long legs, and ENORMOUS, snowshoe-like paws. The fur makes them look bigger than they are. Like the OP said, they're built for walking (or running) on the snow: light, with large feet.

Nice cat!! Beautiful creatures, aren't they! Good job!
