I have always wanted to hunt muskox all my life.I went to a hunting show in Nevada they had hunts for muskox for around 3,500.They also said it was possible to drive there from Alaska.I was just wondering. The hunt was by some big lake. Its not that far from Alaska just wondered if you could drive. If gas keeps going up probally cheaper to fly.

It depends on whether or not you want to shoot a Muskox.

I know of no area with Muskox in the NWT the you can access with a highway vehicle. ..........A few days on a snowmachine, yes! Most of the good hunts start at about $4500. ~Arctic~

"Wondering" in the NWT sounds like a short lived experience.

You could drive to Inuvik from the Yukon, but it's an "adventurous" trip for the uninitiated in the winter, and then you'd still have to fly to a hunting area, and aircraft travel isn't cheap in the North!

Yup ... maybe 15 years ago .. I wouldn't drive it in a junker although a friend did about a year ago in some ancient fully loaded 1/4 ton truck. His daughter was living in Inuvik and he was taking the vehicle and some stuff for her. he went solo and had no problems ... It is a SPECTACULAR drive and if you love the north country ,,,, Go ! clap

I used to guide in the Yukon, and the base camp is right along the Dempster. beautiful drive, but hoards of tree hugger types in the summer!
