Christmas candy for Hans and Grizz dialup warning
We stopped at Cadomin mines on the way hunting and saw these little buggers. Buddy says the really big ones were back from the road. Unfortunately it was about -25 and a vicious wind so we did like the tourists.

This last pic is my favorite, I grunted at this guy...I know, I know don't harass the wildlife, but I couldn't help trying. He looked like he wanted to kick my ass.

enjoy

Chef,

I'm a bit disappointed that you whimped out because of a bit of cold, but apart from that, very nice! Thank you!

Now do tell me one day where you saw these, I'd love to swing by and take some pictures myself! ;-)

I do love driving through the minesite, one of the best places to photograph BIG rams. It used to be like that on the Redcap as well, but the rams don't seem to be over there like they used to be. Could be the monster coal trucks running up and down the valley that keeps them over on the west side perhaps. Has anyone heard if they are still planning a hunt on the mine, I have not kept up to that whole discussion the past 2 yrs.

Rams like these were a common site on the road through the mine when I quit hunting Cadomin the end of 2003. From the west side from either the "hot rock" or the "slaughter hill" one could almost always find groups of B&C quality rams with a spotting scope. I grew very tired of getting in line for some poor old ram to make the mistake of leaving the mine. Incidentally there were spots where the mine border had been delineated with a row of stones by GPS equipped "hunters".
Rather than ever allow a hunt of these tame rams who have grown up for decades on thousands of acres of alfalfa why not use this herd as a gene pool for transplants WITHIN ALBERTA. Such a diabolical scheme would also involve not hunting them for a long enough time frame to allow reproduction and integration. Please note that this would apply to ALL not just those of a particular race.
And no need to tell me as I already know;it will never happen. It just makes too much sense.

bwest, some good points. My buddy pulled a rare cadomine tag last year and he hunted 2 days before deciding......."this aint hunting" and he went home. I think his words to be exact were "it was too cheesy"

still nice to see so many legal rams
