B.C. Bear & Wolf Pics
I finally have time to post pics of my bear hunt that I returned from. I hunted near Mackenzie, B.C. with good friend Dennis Smith of Bear Paw Outfitters. My buddy and I were able to each take nice black bears in the 6-1/2' range. I was extremely lucky in also taking a wolf! Lots of bears were seen and all but one of our party of five connected on bears. The one that didn't connect decided to pass on anything that wasn't near 7' and thus went home empty handed, even though he actually saw alot more bears than anyone else did. One of my buddies shot a HUGE boar that squared just under 7-1/2'!!!

Extremely enjoyable hunt in unbelievably beautiful country. This was my second trip to B.C. for bear with Dennis and it won't be the last! In the next year or two I may go for the 'Trapline Experience' that Dennis offers....sounds like a real kick.

Nice wolf! Could you tell the story of how you got it? What happened? How far? Baited? Chance sighting? Did it travel far after being hit? etc...

While driving up a mountain to glass some clear cuts for bears my outfitter saw a wolf cross the road (I nor my buddy saw it as we were both looking out the side windows). Later that morning I shot my bear. The next morning the outfitter drove back up the same mountain and told me he was going to let me out about 300 yards from where he had seen the wolf the previous morning. I crested a rise in the logging road and saw the wolf standing broadside at about 100 yards. I dropped to prone and shot it behind the shoulder....never moved a foot. I feel very lucky indeed!

Why do you have a muzzle brake?

Well, I bought that rifle many, many moons ago for 3 reasons: the caliber, the rifle and the 'BOSS' system that was new at the time. I didn't necessarily want or need the muzzle break but that's just the way they came back then. I later received the CR (conventional recoil) attachment for it but I found that I would have to go through the whole tuning process again as it is a different weight than the brake that's on it. It's the only rifle I own that has a break and it's on there simply because of the BOSS.

That rifle is my %110 confidence rifle

What cal?

What bullet?

Did you hit that blackie in the head?

I will be in BC Sept. 9 for an elk hunt. What I wouldn't give for a wolf to cross my path...

My bad! I wondered if that was a Browning BOSS system.

I confess to be a hater of Muzzle Brakes, the BOSS is not a true muzzle brake.

Very nice bear and wolf. Good pelt on the wolf too. The last 3 we shot were mangy. All 3 were adults and would have made good rugs except for the mage on the lower backs.

The bear looks in very good shape. No rub marks?

300 Win Mag using a handloaded 180 Partition.

No, I didn't shoot it in the head....I used some lake water to wash off some blood, thats why it looks a little wet. The hide was in great shape with no rub marks at all.
