Yukon Caribou
Got our caribou this August. So much easier than moose that I might just start to concentrate on caribou again. No ibuprofen needed! No guide needed because we live here!

Used a nice set of Vortex Viper 8x42's on a tripod with a doubler. I know doublers aren't that great but I found the whole concept pretty useful. My Rem 660 has a new Pac-Nor 6.5 Magnum barrel and this rifle continues it's string of about 2 dozen one shot kills on caribou. Moved up to 140 grain Sierras with the 1-8 twist barrel. The good news is that with 3 more inches of barrel they go about as fast as I use to drive 120's from the factory 20". Surprisinglt the Pac-Nor barrel is good but the Remington factory barrel was even better before it got a bit crusty inside. The 6.5 Rem Mag can burn out a barrel!

Brought my moose prep bag along so used a Victorinox Lamb Skinner for much of the meat work. The skinned design works pretty well for dismembering too.

Whole family along. My son can't wait to go again. More here, from scouting to dancing to shooting to meat processing

Congratulations. I love the sight of dismembered caribou and like it even better when I do it myself.

About how many lbs of meat do u get off a mtn caribou? I'm from Sask. and have no idea. Have the chance to come up there and hunt with my sister and I'm wondering. Very cool you have your whole family involved with the hunt. I have an 8 yr old that I take with me every chance and he loves it just as your little guys looks too.

Depends on the caribou. Woodland caribou can rival Elk in size. Barren Ground like this one are like a big Mule deer is size and might run 300 pounds live weight. About 35% is meat. So 100 pounds would be about right and maybe 150 pounds off a woodland,

Thanks Mate. I learned gutless skinning in Nunavut and about 50 caribou later am still learning.
