JET boat or atv??
I posted this on another forum to see the responses,if you could have one toy to use for recreation and hunting and fishing which would you rather have a jet boat or an atv?Up here you can use your atv for about7 months then install a plow and use it for the rest of the year. A jet boat can be used in early may for spring bearon the rivers then lake fishing and river moose hunting until late october about 6 months.A tuff choice.

A JetRanger!

Seriously, I would prefer the jetboat as I don't like riding on ATVs, but, I am getting to the age where one may soon be necessary.

Jet boats are a nice toy I have been wondering if you can find a jet drive that is inexpensive and would push a say 16ft flat bottom boat up stream, say 40 horses or so?

I've got one of each and I see a lot less folks on the rivers than on the quad trails. You are right with your statement that you can use a quad more months of the year.If you got a driveway that is to big to shovel the quad may the answer. In the Yukon and B.C. a jet is a great toy.

Unfortunately, there aren't any inexpsensive jet outboards, small ones are expensive, and big ones are more expensive. For shallow water lower hp options, you might want to look at a go-devil. http://www.godevil.com/GO-DEVIL_Engines.html Some of the moose hunters in the interior swear by them. Considering jet pumps are about 70% efficient, a 25-30 horse go-devil should be equivalent to a 40 horse jet.

The Go-Devil is an interesting and likely an excellent shallow water design but the rivers I would like to run are at times only 6 inches deep over rock boulders. A fellow I work with actualy glassed a Jet ski into the back of a canoe, that is a little crude for me but I'm wondering if I could buy an accident damaged jet ski and rob the parts??

I don't see why you couldn't if you put your mind to it. Just don't forget to use lots of Duct Tape! derf
