if it is your first time, and you catch them "in" the sight of hundreds of caribou spread out in front of you is DEFINITE sensory overload.

CometWe are going to Nouchimi and staying in one of the Cabins (European).
We are taking 20 gallons of gas in Gerry cans. Is that enough? Plan to bring the digi camera and will post pictures next week when I return. Does anyone know if they are currently in the zone? I have been so keen to go and could only get the first 4 days of the season this year. So I took a gamble.

shootawayAfter a two year break from shooting and hunting I am starting to get the itch again.I've been to Nouchimi 9 times,and had the best times of my life-really!I remember the first year when it was still "undiscovered" how creepy the trip up was encountering blizzards,sub-zero temperatures and an icy road,not knowing what to expect around every turn.I was scared to death! I remember seeing wild caribou for the first time and what an impression it left in my mind.I might head up again next year although I will have to find a new partner.

shootawayThe trip up there is a really exausting thing.Every time up I think that I am stupid for makeing the drive up,that I should have gone for a fall fly-in hunt instead.I swear to myself that it will be my last time up but it's no use,I return.The trip up is an expedition alone.You get the feeling of a do it yourself.If a fall hunt would cost the same I doubt that I would return.A fall hunt although less tiresome, might not be as fun.I will try to post pictures.

shootawayNo,I was never drawn to hunt in that zone even though I participate every year.I shot this with a rem. sendero 300wm with core-locts at 25yds.I used a zeiss 8x fixed scope.

CometI guess the 300 WM will do the job at 25 yards
I hit one of my bous at over 300 yards (over a small lake) with a 7 mm mag (Federal premium) and he dropped like a stone.

shootawayIt must have been hell pulling that thing back to the road! I own the big seven and was thinking of rechambering it for the 300wm.That will give me 2 300's that I can fool around with.The barrels on the 7mm don't seem to last that long,that is why I am thinking of switching over.By the time I develop a load and test it at different ranges ,the barrel's throat gets too eroded.The groups then are to big at longer ranges.Was that shot at 300 a fluke or are you an experienced shooter?DO you shoot often?
