Ammo is limited but the amounts are generous. More strict are the limits on gunpowder and primers if you are a reloader. Go to the website.

Check with Customs and the Canadian Firearms Center, some ammo ok in the US is prohibited in Canada. Also if you are travelling with handguns or AR 15 they are restricted and some prohibited, such as anything AK.

Cal Papas.
I’m
Buying a new place in Talkeetna. Therefore we will be close. Do you or anybody know if you can ship ammo by UPS? To Alaska? I have collected cases of ammo over the years I hate that to sell it.

I have moved to Alaska three times.

The first time was in 2000, the last in 2014.

I have also made the sad move back to the lower 48, or overseas from Alaska.

Canadian customs is full of beautiful people, who are generally nice.

I never declared ammo last time. I guess you are supposed to.

Not sure what month you are driving up, I guess a lot of that will play to the situation with C-19.

The only way to drive up is on the Alcan, or to use the ferry system.

The drive through BC on the Kolkahanna (spelling) is wonderful, but if you break down the support will be nonexistant. Especially if you are using Uhaul.

You must drive up to Edmonton and then turn left and catch the Alcan at Fort Saint John.

You can ship ammo via UPS. You just need to mark each box with ORM-D. (Which is code for Cartridges, small Arms) Use a black marker. Each box can't weigh more than 66 pounds.
However, you can only ship it within CONUS, and within Alaska; not to and from.
As far as transporting it through canada; it is limited to 5000 rounds; which is nothing for most of us. That is per individual, and if so, you and your wife can each take 5K? IDK.
I "inherited" a ton of ammo when my friend moved to AK several years ago. It was sad for him to leave it behind.
It will be sad for you as well.

ORM-D Stands for Other Regulated Materials -D

Small arms ammunition is just one of them that fits into that classification.

All I ship is small arms ammo and it has to go on the box.

one solution is to take the ferry from Seattle to Whittier or Seward and avoid Canada completely.

Sounds like Alaska has a serious virus problem, as we post.

https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/explos...nsit-ammunition/9909. Looks like 5000 rounds. Are you currently living in CA? Are you planning to return to CA in the near future? If so, bring some back with each trip. I'd also advise you to join AK Air Club 49 when you arrive in Alaska. With this perk you are allowed two free checked bags when you fly with them. AK Airlines is also the only airline that I am aware of, that allows up to 50 lbs of ammunition in checked bags. That is provided that the ammunition are in containers designed to hold ammunition. No loose bulk ammo, even in original cartons. I hope this helps

I shipped Cal a case of M1 ammo a while back + it was an outrageous cost to Alaska but not bad going to Kansas (as I recall) + then overland. + yes, this of course was UPS.

Call a freight company. I have ammo shipped to seattle then barged to Anc. then lynden or carlile to Kenai. tu2
