schmausSpring Bear hunting in a month
So who's starting to get excited for the spring bear hunt? I'm starting to get the urge to go bear hunting. This will be the first year in about three or four that the snow levels and weather are going to allow me to get into some of my more favored areas

calgarychef1I'll go out for a bit of spot and stalk probably. I'm not getting too serious about it, I love hunting but don't really "need" a bear.

schmaushaha nobody really needs a bear, but its a pretty good excuse to get out and scouting around for moose and elk. I'll be hitting it pretty hard this year.

calgarychef1There was one place we were hunting last fall for elk but the place was absolutely crawling with bear sign. I'll go back there and see what's happening, bring the rancher a batch of cookies and firm up some permission for this fall.
good luck with your adventure

schmausI'm heading out scouting around this sunday for a bit. I'm gonna take the quad into some new cut blocks that were made this winter. There has been a ton of wolf action in there this year so maybe i'll get a crack at a wolf.

Grizzly AdamsI don't need another bear either, according to my wife

but I still don't have a blond one and it's a good excuse to get out, in the woods.

Daryl S.I wouldn't mind smacking one with a 480gr. round ball - if it was big enough. No black bear under 7' would interest me.

schmaus7 ft would be awesome but I would def go 6-7 ft. I would like to get a nice color phase

Daryl S.Quite a few brown phase black bears around here, the odd reddish/blonde one, but of course, blacks predominate.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought there was no Spring bear season in Ont.

All I know is that wE are flying north by sea plane from Toronto. I shot 04 years ago and I knew there has been changes
I will get more details after the weekend though
Its a surprise since I organised a hunt for them in Europe this is to return a favour.

calgarychef1Well my spring adventures have been officially cancelled. Tore my achilles tendon in.....Disneyland of all places! Wifey is laughing, I can traipse all over the province and never have an issue but can't take 2 days of pounding the pavement.
I mostly mention this to help educate the rest. That ankle has been bothering me for a few months and the tendon was sore and swollen. I guess I've had tendonitis all this time and all it needed was an excuse to go kablooey. So, for those of us over a certain age we shouldn't ignore those little injuries, a bit of physio and I'd have been fine. Now it's going to be months of physio and it may never be back to normal.

Ouch!! Sorry to hear about that chef!
Well, they do say that the achilles is one of the few repairs that results in a stronger attachment after surgery.
All the best on your recovery. I know how frustrating it can be!

Daryl S.Enjoy yourself, Chef - Disney with the kids makes for wondeful memories. When we took our girls to Disneyland, we also experienced a 7.4 earthquake at 04:58 hrs. one morning - better than most of the rides - well, not quite.
Take a trip to Sea World (San Diego) as well.

Daryl S.Early spring, black bears all over the back roads & eating the fresh greenery in the ditches, around here.
Kind af a crap shoot with a rifle. Stalking (sneeking) up on them with a bow is a hoot.

Watson LakeI have been out the last 4 days. Seen bears each time as close as 20 yards. but so far all in B.C.
Tomorrow I am changing location.. Nice looking bears though. Was close enough to bison tonight that we could have reached out and touched them. Yes I was chicken to do it..

schmausI've been out a lot the past couple of weeks. Seen prob about 40 bears so far. Nothing has really blown my hair back for size or color yet this year. Going back out for a quad ride today
Just got back from a week in 7-38 looking for G Bears and a truly enormous Black Bear. No G bear boars, lots of small, medium, and large Black bears.
We took three 6+ footers, beautiful coats, prime condition. Saw elk in there for the first time, did not know they were up that way.
