Watson LakeMy first question.. Why did a helicopter need to be sent form Comox B.C. to rescue?
How long did the arrival take for the Cormoront?
Hope the people are ok..

sheephunterabI suspect because it was dark and local helicopters aren't equipped to fly after dark? Not sure.

p dog shooterWhy are there more bear attacks because like in my area the bear population is increasing at a very fast rate.
Then they are not as afraid of people because hunting pressure is way down.

The usual saw from authority, must be very comforting to the victims.

Demonical^
The guys came around a corner and right into "Oh shit distance", from a sow grizzly with 2 cubs.
It was a 'Defensive Reactionary attack'.
Don't try to make it any more than what it was.

Who said any thing about this being a predatory attack.
My statement just deals with the increase in bear populations and the lack of hunting pressure.

Bill LeeperJust got back from a couple of days of camping and hiking in one of my sheep/goat areas. This is the very first time I have been up there and not seen a grizzly or, at least, plenty of sign. There are absolutely no berries and no evidence that there were any. Creek levels quite low. I suspect the bears have moved down into the valley which makes contact with people much more likely.
During the night, the dog growled a couple times at what turned out to be a young bull elk who approached too close.
I think this year's hot, dry summer, along with a mimimal snowpack, has caused bears to move and I would be more concerned now if I was hiking closer to civilisation. Regards, Bill.
