chilcotin hillbillyfirst wolf of the season
Shot this male yesterday if I can get another 6 or so this season and if my hunters shoot straight when they get their chances, we may put a dent in population again this season.

For the most part I always have bait out starting December, I also look for tracks, figure out their likely destination and try and head them off. Sometimes you can suck them in with some calling or howling. Other times you just have to be in the right place at the right time, it did work out for this one. You must try everything to be consistant.

Mighty PeaceGreat looking wolf...congrats.
Since I have missed the majority of the hunting season this year except for my moose trip, I will be concentrating on wolves and coyotes this winter in northern Alberta.

chilcotin hillbillyAs far as days for a wolf hunt.....as many as you can, as it is not an easy hunt. We use calling, baits, ambush tactics. It sure is cool to hear the wolves around the campfire but I prefer to here them howl when one of the pack hits the ground.

Speaking of size, is there any orgination that keeps track of wolf size, and how would a wolf be scored, would it be like B & C or P & Y score Bear and Cougar, ie; size of the skull?
skin that one out, and I'll get ya another

chilcotin hillbillySkull measurements the same as bear and cats determines trophy size.
I think down south killed wolves have to wieghed in most states but here in Canada the novelty has worn off and we just want them dead. Weight to us is not to important just numbers!

I always thought trophy size on fur bearers was determined by the price you are payed for the hide. The higher the price the better the trophy.
