drakekirkAlberta Whitetail 2011
I hunted with Justin Harris of Alberta Hunts Outfitting the 3rd week of November, 2011. As many on this forum have commented, the true monsters of Alberta seemed to stay underground, but I had an outstanding hunt nonetheless. In six days of hunting I saw 40-50 bucks from 120-150inches, about a half dozen bucks from 150-160inches, and two bucks over 160. In spite of the bitter cold temps, I managed to hang in there and shoot this big buck on the second to last day. I’ve been fortunate to go on quite a few guided hunts, and I can say that Justin is the hardest working guide I’ve ever met.
This was may second successful hunt with Justin. A buddy of mine and I killed the two big moose below in Oct 2010.

OldgunsWhat did that buck score?

drakekirkhe grossed right at 160 and weighed right at 300lbs. The most impressive part to me was the inch of ice on his head from scent trailing does through the snow in the bitter cold. Its amazing that they can take that weather

drakekirkJustin also does cat hunts but is booked 5 years out (i'm year 5). The is the second cat he's guided in the last month that was close to 200lbs. The moose hunt was near Swan Hills Alberta in early oct 2010...weather was highs in 70s and lows in the 30s. The whitetail hunt last november was brutal cold.......happy for it though cause it got the deer moving. A couple of the days were -30 to -40F... the rest of the days hovered around zero.

lagerboyNice buck drakekirk. Looks like a mature animal. It's a great feeling when it all comes together isn't it. Congrats. Not alot of guys experienced that this year. But this winter is shaping up here on the prairies to be just what the doc ordered for the deer. Cheers.

nubeI know what you mean by ice build up! My deer this year almost couldn't see. It was real hard to find a big one this year. I passed up 2 others bigger than this guy and then time was running out near the end of the season and thought I better get a piece of meat at least.
