hvrhunterBoots for Newfoundland
I am doing a Moose/Caribou hunt in October. Looking for advice about footwear. Do I need glacier socks and Kolfak boots? or will Rubber bottomed leather upper pack boots be sufficient?

CrazyhorseconsultingI hunted in the Crabbes River area in 1996 and when I discussed footwear with the outfitter I used, he suggested knee high rubber wading boots and that is just exactly what I wore and had no problems whatsoever. They were slip ons, not lace ups, and I was walking 4 to 6 miles daily and they held up real well.

what your outfitter recommend? i do not see the need of Koflach boots. rubber boots with insole will be enough.

huntfish1963I also used knee high rubber boots for my hunt. Make sure they are comfortable.

BiebsYes, ankle-fit knee high rubber boots. I used Mucks.

CrazyhorseconsultingMine were not ankle fit. They were the exact same boots I wore everyday while working at the Fort Worth Zoo. I still were the exact same boots everyday and they serve me well.
People ask me how I can stand to wear the things, but I have been doing so since 1982.
Wore them on the 1996 hunt in Newfoundland, the 2000 hunt in Nunavut for Musk Ox and Caribou.
Wore them in 2010 on a bLack bear hunt in Idaho.
They just take getting used to. I have been wearing this type boot since 1982 and have no problems.

Cajun1956I have hunted moose in Newfoundland on two occasions. During both hunts, I wore Lacrosse Grange (knee high, uninsulated, and ankle-fit) rubber boots (with Superfeet insoles) and SmartWool socks.
