Wayfaring StrangerNewfoundland Hunting Opportunities???
So I was THRILLED to hear I'm being considered by my company for relocation to St Johns for 3+ years. then I thought waitaminute I'm just assuming there's good hunting and fishing there, and I'm aslo assuming as a resident alien I can hunt big game. So please fill me in on the quality of the hunting and fishing up there and if anyone happens to know if I'll be able to hunt without an outfitter I'd love to know that as well...

Idaho Sharpshootergordy,
you forgot to tell him about Screech and the "Rubber Boot Song..."
A friend from RVN was a "Newf". He joined our army, served in my Ranger Company, and enjoys dual citizenship.
Especially if you are a bird/waterfowl hunter, you will enjoy your stay.
Good Luck!

Wayfaring StrangerThanks all. How far from St johns do I have to go to get into good bear hunting??
70 or 80 miles for bears. 10 miles or less for moose from StJohns.
Idaho Iharpshooter, If I was a young man starting out today I would consider doing the same. I would love to have the opportunity to become a US citizen
regards
Gordy

Cane RatI killed a nice bear there in 2006, the place is crawling with them.
Interesting local food and great local beers. I remember having salt cod and something called hardbread which was prepared like a stuffing and was very good. I brought back a bunch of excellent local preserves called Purity brand. Also remember they all foraged for these little berries called bakeapples.
I loved the place, really neat place with wonderful people.
