trapntravSunday hunting in Sask.?
Any chance of hunting on Sunday's in Saskatchewan in the near future? I can respect why and those who would choose not to if given the choice, but how about having the choice?

calgarychef1It sure would be nice wouldn't it? With a season that's only 2 weeks to begin with and one week for non residents an extra day would be nice. I doubt you'll see it though.

Mauser96I'd love to see it. I think you will eventually. Despite what "they" say, the only reason not to have it is religion - ie Sunday is church day. BUT they DON'T say that as a CHURCHGOER - they say the animals need a day of rest, etc. When I hear that, I respond, "Well, why hunt them at all if we are concerned about their rest? Then follow up with, Let's say they need a rest - how's Monday sound-I work that day anyways"
If hunter's in Sask want Sunday hunting, they better get off their ass, join the Sask Wildlife Federation, and makes their voices heard. The numbers are there to make it happen, jut need to get guys off their asses.

35404The reasons given are twofold. Fishcops need a day off to be with their families, and Sunday is always used as a day to seperate seasons. As big a crock of shit as it is the chances of changing are remote as it would mean more overtime for union workers, something that will meet resistance in a place where 50% of the people are gov't employees. Also, there is resistance from outfitters who use Sun. as a day to 'switch out' hunters. They also believe that locals would use their blinds etc when no one was around. Outfitters here have a big voice with gov't.I worked as a guide for several seasons and the politics of the outfitting business still boggles my little mind. Mark

MurfOne of the voices against Sunday hunting is that of the local hunters. They are well aware that hunting on both weekend days would attract more city hunters. Of course the local hotel operators, service station owners and restaurant owners would favour Sunday hunting. The Sask Wildlife Fed. may be in favour but the Assoc of Rural Municiplaities, farmer groups etc are opposed.

duffy4In Alberta the Alberta Fish & Game Association has been requesting more Sunday hunting opportunities for many years. Bit by bit, little by little there has been more WMUs opened to Sunday hunting. In areas where Fish & Wildlife has wanted to increase harvest of deer (White-tails are very abundant in some areas) and the Counties are on side they have opened Sunday hunting. White geese are in need of increased harvest and so you can hunt white geese on Sunday everywhere in Alberta.
