Peter AndersenMy jaw dropped when I saw him holding that sheep. The last sheep hunt I watched him on he was too out of shape and had to quit. Good on him though with that monster.

tendramsJust got word that Colorado Bucks ram is 47x42 and scored around 172. The locally drawn kluane tag holder shot a sheep that should go a few inches bigger. Will post pics if I get them.

sheephunterabThere was a Kluane tag this year? Colorado Buck's is a Stone not a Dall.

jhaneyFor residents only

Watson LakeI saw a picture of Colorado's stone. Very impressive.
Looks like he is now a partner in a Yukon Guide territory. Used to be Lone wolf outfitting..

I believe there is a Kluane tag every year for residents (always a draw for 1 tag). I'm not sure if they still sell/auction/draw any non resident permits though.
11 September 2013, 03:25
Watson LakeNon residents can not hunt Dalls Sheep without a registered guide.
A non resident can hunt once every three years minimum in the yukon for moose, black bear, wolf, and possibly some other game but not sheep.
A non resident must be guided by a residdent hunter and maximum 100 non resident permits a year are allocated. First come first served. This year the allocatuion was used up April 15th. A resident can apply for a permit beginning April first.

Nope. Chad bought Teslin River outfitters with Shawn Raymond and I think Dave Marsters has something to do with it as well.

Yukon577I saw this year's Kluane sheep. I was at the Renewable office when the hunter brought it in for the horn insert. Amazing animal, wide and very thick horns.
Young hunter, he was understandably thrilled! Great to see.

medvedthis year the Kluane auction dall sheep is 150k .....
http://bid.wildsheepfoundation...EEP-PERMIT_i18483257Colorado was a stone one.
easy access if you have a boat and not good soon there.
28 January 2014, 06:40
sheephunterabYa it sold really well. That did include the outfitting as well. The Alaska Chugach permit went quite high as well. Lots of interest in big Dall sheep this year.
Got to see Dan Reynolds's ram and Colorado Buck's ram as well. The Yukon sure has kicked out some crankers recently.

tendramsNot a huge amount for the Kluane tag I don't think. Did it not go for twice that pre-financial crisis?
29 January 2014, 02:42
sheephunterabIt sold for $65,000 in 2012.

tendrams...and 315k in 2008. Selling "well" is a relative term.

All relative to the quality of rams available/being produced. That tag hasn't produced much for rams in recent years. I think having a dedicated outfitter helped bring the price back up this year.

medvedSheep,
up to now the winning hunter was not on his own neither...
in the same time there is nobody that has a lot of hunting experience in that area ... a lot to discover.
the terrain is rough, im pretty sure there is an honest chance for a big trophy if the hunter moves is butt.
horses wont help that much there ...
just my two cents ..
there is every year 400 yukoners dreaming being drawn just for 10$, that ticket is cheap ...
31 January 2014, 06:01
sheephunterabFor sure but the previous buyers had to hire guides. Now it's included. I think the fact that Dave is now outfitting the hunt helped with the sale too.
The resident draw isn't every year is it? I thought there were something like 30 permits over 40 years or something like that. Great opportunity for sure.

if there is a non resident permit offered as an auction then there is one for resident via the draw, that was part of the agreement.
if there is a problem with the FN and YG with that permit then no hunts nor the resident nor non resident will be hunting ...
i wish the resident can go too on the 20th of July ...
i dont know if the outfitting included has helped or not as i said previously nobody can pretends having strong experience of the area where the permit is offered ... maybe in the long run ....
they re not operating there as outfitter but as a guide rented by the FN a little different ... dont know really all the knots behind that and dont want ....
31 January 2014, 21:32
sheephunterabI understand the part about there needing to be the same number of resident and non-resident permits but the way it was explained to me is that there will not be a hunt every year....some years will be off years. There was no non resident hunt last year for example.

last year the FN in charge was not able to organize the hunt and they just changed the director.
some years may be off but the resident tag is available and we cant have a non-resident only ... some will challenge to court for sure ...
to be clear two years ago none of the tags were available and they tried to sell the non resident one : hunt didnt happen.
of course the market today is lower after the novelty. the new tag available is not a bargain unless a trophy hunter wants something really unique ...

larryshoresThe Colorado Buck show where he killed the big sheep was just on TV. It is a true monster. Shockingly large actually.
If you get a chance, watch the show.
