I filmed a really good buck right at dark the day before I got this big boy. So I couldnt wait for the next day - hunting the same stand....

I was hunting from a box stand. It was a real nasty cold morning, lots of hail, sleet, snow and wind. Wind was blowing 20 mph+. I watched a 120" 4X4 tearing up a hillside and chasing does all throughout the morning. Same 4x4 and a drop tined wicked racked buck got into a good fight, which I filmed for a while. As soon as the wind died and sleet/hail stopped (around noon) -I started seeing does.

A few does were feeding in a small alfalfa field that circled this stand. 10 minutes later I just happend to look in the direction of the does and caught a huge bodied deer with head down moving across the field within 100 yards of me. When the deer raised his head all I saw was antlers and notcied he had great mass symetry, and would score good (also he was the biggest whitetail I had ever seen while hunting - which helped...) so I put it on him and fired. He buckled, ran 40 yards then crashed. From seeing him to shooting him to hearing him crash - it took no more that 1 minute.

I was using a .338 Stainless Stalker/Zeiss 3X10X50 Scope - 210 NP Federal Factory load (my preferred all around North American load for this caliber)and I was surprised he didnt fall in his tracks. The bullet struck a little back from his shoulder quartering left away...He weighed in around 280 #'s on the hoof and rough scored 173 B/C.

For this Georgia boy, the size of these whitetails is amazing! Definitley gives you a perspective on the majesty of a canadian whitetail buck. Great hunt all around - my father ended up taking his best whitetail ever too!
