A day to remember......
For those of us who still care about Canada, today is among the saddest anniversaries we have; it is 67 years today since The Second Canadian Infantry Division attacked Nazi-held France, at Dieppe. Canadians were the last Allied soldiers to leave France in 1940, as "Hurricane Heintz" Guderian's superb Panzers drove to the English Channel, the firs to return and die by the hundreds at Dieppe and the only Allied troops to come close to all of their planned objectives on "D-Day".

Several of my friends lost their dads and uncles that terrible day and I was very friendly with many veterans of Dieppe as a younger man, including one of the senior commanders of "The Suicide Battalion", The 46th, Batt., The South Saskatchewan Regiment.

Almost 1000 Canadian boys died at Dieppe, in about 3 hours that morning and the sea at Puys, "Blue Beach", where the Royal Regiment of Canada attacked, losing 226 killed in ten minutes, actually was red with the blood of boys from central Ontario.....

Lest We Forget.

FYI, The actor who played "Scotty" on the original Star Trek, was a Canadian. He hit the beach at Dieppe and was wounded in action.
