HammellVery nice bull. What caliber/bullets did you use? Any story to go with?

lagerboyHammell, the cartridge used was a 338-06 AI. Bullets were 210 gr Scirocco's. I'm sold on these bullets. Great terminal performance. The elk were not calling at all where we were. Not sure why. We were walking down an old logging road hoping to try and at least cut a track. Hadn't seen a fresh track since we had got there which was 2 days. After about a half mile hike we run smack dab into a small herd of about 6 we figured. It had just rained, was sandy and had the wind in our face so very quiet walking. I just happened to hear something off to my left in the jack Pines and there they were. I didn't care what I shot. I almost took the calf but my buddy said no here comes a bull. When he come through the opening I shot. It hit high a little high in the shoulder but still managed to catch the lungs. He wheeled 180 degrees and trotted up a hill and disappeared. He only went 75 yds and bedded. I snuck up on him and put two more in his neck after he stood up. When he stood is when I realized how big he was. That's when my heart tried to jump out of my chest. The last two shots were not necessary as where he was bedded had alot of blood on the ground that was coming from his mouth. I feel very fortunate to have gotten this great animal. Probably won't ever top this bull. Cheers.
