Frans DiepstratenHere birdie, birdie
Last Saturday the long anticipated bird hunting event took place in the South of the province (that be AB). Around 9am I met Scruffy, at a muddy roadside turnout near a hamlet of no significance in the dry country. Scruffy had ensured plenty of food and drinks including home made cookies, and he knew of a few good places to go. We shot a few ducks (and spent an hour pretending to be a labrador retriever), and almost a limit of huns in the morning. In the afternoon we met up with two other fine gentlemen and a golden, and hunted some more for huns and pigeons. I won't go into too much detail, and risk revealing hot spots, modi operandi, and other secrets, but I can tell you that we had a very good time. It never rained, the birds were plentiful, and the pigeons skillful in dodging my shots. A generous host throughout, Scruffy sent me home with the possession limit of huns, and two ducks to boot. This started out as a training trip, to revive long-dormant wingshooting skills, but it turned out to be much more. Thanks Scrufy, hope we can do it again some time.

Chef, fire up the ovens, clean out the skillets; the pigeon breasts await your magic!!

calgarychef1Sounds like you guys had a nice time...wish I could have been there. I did get two grouse while pretending to elk hunt. They sure are fun to hunt with a bow! I cooked them up with some wild mushroom and red wine sauce...yum.
