Frans DiepstratenIs this the tail end of an old thread? The content seems to have nothing to do with the subject line.
I just purchased a Lee Enfield No4 MkI*, through an online auction. It looks pretty decent, matching numbers except for the magazine, dust in the barrel. I got side tracked by a call to come chasing cats Saturday morning or I would have shot it for the first time this weekend. I thought I'd try and get a deer with it this fall, if it shoots straight that is.

snowmanDan I have a P14 that was sporterized by BSA that I will take out after deer. With loads the P14 will handle its not really a 303 anymore . It chronographs a little faster than my 308 does. I am planning a little conversion with a # 4 Mk 1 that I might hunt with a bit. I want to put a 35 cal barrel on a #4 SMLE and chamber it for a 35 Win. Maybe I should call it a slightly modified 35 W. Since cases are not availible I plan to use 30-40 brass which will be a little short but thats OK because a full length 35 Win round is just a little too long for the enfield clip.It will be headspaced for 30-40 brass since 35 Win brass has a thinner rim.Ballistics should be the same as 358 Win and in a rifle that you don't care if it gets knocked around a bit .

dan belisleActually, this is the tail end of an old thread, and I was responding to a previous poster. However, as long as we're here, Snowman, why not make your new 35 a 35-303? Or a 35-303 Epps? How great would that be? Should be fun, I would think. - Dan

snowmanDan Because I already have a set of 35 Win dies is part of the reson. If I was going to build a 35 Epps Imp I think I would want to use a P14 action. The 35 win case blows out the shoulder of the 30-40 case quite a bit so the 35 Win has quite a bit more case cap than the 35-303.

dan belisleAh, that makes sense. Well, it should do the trick, the 35 Win was no slouch, really. - Dan
