Lucky/Great to live in B.C.
Awsome to live in a province with a spring Grizzly hunt. got lucky and drew a tag. Went out for a scouting trip 2 weeks ago, couldn't get to the valley I had reseached. Saw 12 Black Bears and 2 Grizzies. Went back this weekend could get past the drifts that stopped us last time. had to cut a couple of trees to get in but it was all good, we were the first and only ones in there. Saw 13 Blackies includeing one monster 7+ footer. Saw 4 grizzlies, 3 Boars and one sow. Shot a very nice Boar. No monster or anything, they are mountain bears in there. Dropped him off yesterday, taxidermast says probably 7+ footer. The scull measured 23 1/8 green for the compulsery inspection. all in all a very enjoyable two tripps with my son. Thought I'd add that the area is roughly 7 hours from my place.
Pictures or we will never believe you!
Congrats on the permit and great outing.
Basically computer illiterate. I could email pics if someone could post them. Sorry.
I have known MTM for over 20 years and, in fact, some years ago, I gave him directions to a locale near my home town where there are LOTS of Grizzlies. I have not talked to him for a couple of weeks, but, he is NOT a BSer and I have a pretty good idea where he shot this bear.
Getting a Grizzly in BC is not particularly difficult, especially if you can climb and are willing to work to get into the slides and valleys where they live at this time of year....and THAT is not always easy.
Well, Mike, FB better sell ME that .416 bbl now as you have your Grizz and won't need such a big gun, anymore!!!!

Hey Dewey, I hoped you might see this post. I got him right up against Wells Gray. West side height of land. Yup .416 Rem.350 TSX 75 yds. Worked good. If you send me your email I'll send a couple of pics.

bluefinAhh BC. God's country.
Dewey, if it's alright with MTM, share those pics.
MTM,I had forgotten that you told me about that LEH during our last phone call, good one and now you can relax and do something EASY like, say, the RM Bighorns in the East Kootenays.....

I am even less computer "savvy" than you and my wife is too ill to do such chores for me, so, I suggest that you send the pix to Raul and he is really good at posting them.
He should be at my place this week to take pix. of my last lever rifles I want to sell and to show me the parts to build that 1946-.280 P-64 we were talking about. So, give him a holler.
I am putting in for just Elk and Mulie LEHs, tomorrow and I think I will try for a Grizzly, but, closer to "home" in the W.Kootenays, about where I told you of back when. I have another place near an old BCFS Lookout where there are NO hunters and LOTS of bears, but, it is a whore of a hike at 64 end of June, so.......
Who is doing your mount as Steve died in that fire?

Dewey, Frank Gilbert is doing it for me. Great guy, does realy nice work and is super good to deal with. I stopped in last week and he gave my some drawings anmd instructions, its been 20 yrs since I skinned a Bear. Not so easy or fun after dark.
Hi Mike
Great looking bear.
It is nice to see you are doing well.
Ian
Now I believe you. Great bear.
Thanks Dogcat, my first and likely only Grizzly. Quit shooting Blackies many years ago. Not into eating them really so don't want to shoot any more. That said there'll be many a Grizzly burger on the barbi this year.

What sections did you bring out? I would certainly take the strip loins, backstraps and hams, but, would not bother with the rest. I have been told by guys whom I know to be real bushmen that the backstraps make into really NICE "butterfly porkchops"....worth a try as they are right there once the hide is off.
BTW, "free-miner" came to my humble abode yesterday and he "forgot" the 1946 Mod. 70 action, the Micky Edge stock and that Classic .280 bbl. that was yours......heh, heh, I never give up, this is my 41st. P-64 Mod. 70 and will be a FINE hunting rig!
Lower backstrapps and hams, the snarles from the darkness were closeing in..lol. Not realy but you get the idea.
That's funny he seems to foreget a lotta stuff at your place.

Yup, for a "young" guy, "free_miner" can be quite forgetful and given my "magnetic" personality, these guns just keep kinda "sticking" to me, ya know!!!
Man, I have seen some FINE stuff at good prices, lately.....!
Not sure how I missed this post. Congrats MTM!! Great looking bear. I'm still dreaming of my chance for one just like it.

Cheers
Canuck
Canuck and Gate, thanks guys. I wouldn't normally put pics of game on here but I was pretty excited. Haven't shot a Bear in many years.
