Moose and Grizzly
Guys , hope you can assist me with something.

A very good friend wants to shoot a large moose and also a monster grizzly.

Outfitters here in UK don't really offer them and if you ask a question have to ring an outfitter in Kodiak to ask the same question.

1) Can you shoot grizzly and moose same trip or are seasons different?

2) What is the time span required to get both?

3) Can anyone recommend a suitable, well scoring PH ? Would be 1xhunter 1xnon hunter.

Thanks

I would take a look at Stone Mountain Safaris website. They can do all you ask and do it exceedingly well. I hunted there in 2008 for elk and moose and there were plenty of grizzlies with a beast of an oldie taken while I was there. The trip will be far more than a hunt. A great fly in horseback adventure in an absolutely stunning and game rich area. I will go back.

I hunted with Rogue River Outfitters in the Yukon and shot a very large moose and two wolves. I was not in a grizzly camp but there were several spotted at other camps. Focus on the moose and consider the Grizz on a trophy fee/opportunity basis. Just make sure they know up front you are 100% interested in Grizzly.

Kawdy Outfitters would be my choice. http://lancasterfamilyhunting.com/ I'd recommend going no less than 2 weeks to try and get both.

Dorset hunter,

if your friend is from European Union and want to bring back the grizzly trophy then BC with the ban is a no no ....

Yukon is a very good answer.
of course i ve seen a very good recommendation from Yukon and ceaser lake.

Rogue river is maybe good but not the best for horses trip .....

and i will add there is less and less outfitters in Yukon operating horses and you have to find good operators with experiences and not newcomers ...

do your homework too.

all the best.

your friend will enjoy is stay in our little paradise.

I have hunted with caesar lake a couple of times. Great hardworking folks. Horses are used. Lots of griz and moose with heavy front palmation.

Also check with Mark Young about hunting the artic wildlife reserve in AK. Lots of bears as well.

As suggested above, I would focus on Moose with Grizzly on a trophy fee basis. I would also go to the Yukon for this and hunt with Tim Mervyn. He has a great reputation and has been running horses in his 10,000 square mile area for many many years. I have hunted with him three separate times and his operation is unbelievably good. Tim offers professionalism, hard work, and honesty along with abundant and high quality game....one just can't ask for more than that!

Yes, you can definitely take both on the same hunt. As you can see, there are loads of good outfitters in the Yukon and that would be my recommendation as well. I'd give Deuling Stone Outfitters a serious look. If I'm not mistaken they killed the biggest bear in the Yukon last year and they routinely kill monster moose.

Here a picture of the "little" bear Vanessa took with them last fall.
